My breast reduction
So, on Thursday (July 10th), I got a breast reduction done. it never really hit me that it was happening, so the whole time leading up to it, I was nervous. And that was it. I was not nervous about it happening, but about afterward.
We got there at 7:13 AM, and couldn't get in. LeighAnn, Dr. Boustros physician assistant, didn't know we were there yet, and thought she had unlocked the office door. Anyways, once we got there, Dr. Nguyen came in a few minutes later. He was the anesthesiologist. LeighAnn took me back into the room that I had for my pre-op, before telling me that I had to take a pregnancy test.
Well, that took me like 10 minutes. It's kinda hard to force yourself to pee, whenever you went pee like an hour before that! Anyways, I found out that I'm not pregnant (and if I had been, I would of been extremely worried!), I was tempted to let my dad know that, but didn't want to bother him even more. I went back to my little room, and I changed into my gown thingy. I thought that I would get to stay in pants (which I had been told I would be able to do on Tuesday, during my pre-op), so imagine my surprise when I was told that I had to strip out of everything, except underwear. Thing is, is that morning, I was running late. And, left those behind. So yeah...
Once I was changed, LeighAnn came back in, with my parents, and then Dr. Nguyen came in. He gave me two pills to take, one was to help with blood pressure, and one was to help me sleep. He also asked a few questions. LeighAnn spoke with me and my parents for a few moments, before shooing them back out. Dr. Boustros came in, so he could make his markings. He did one up by the 'v' in my neck, and drew a line from there, down to my belly button. From there, he proceeded to make circles around my areola's. This whole time, I'm trying to make sure that my gown doesn't come completely undone.
After that, they took me across the hall, and in to the operation room. I sat on the chair, and they covered me up with a blanket, so I didn't have to worry about them seeing the rest of me! From there, Dr. Nguyen helped me get my are out of my left sleeve. He then proceeded to attempt to do the IV on the back of my left hand. He made me laugh by asking if I "brought my veins with" me. The back of my left hand didn't take to it, so he had to do it on my fore-arm pit (the area where your arm bends). That one took, thankfully. He then did the morphine. Boy, that worked quickly! Dr. Boustros helped me out of my right sleeve, and made me all comfy. Dr. Nguyen asked if I felt funny at all, I was going to mention that my crotch was burning, but I decided to keep my mouth shut (which was a good idea!).
The next thing I knew, I was in my room across the hall. My mom was helping me back in my clothes. Apparently, while we were putting my pants back on I said "Mom, I have a butt!"...I totally don't remember that. I remember them getting me in the wheel chair. After that, I was back at home. My dad and brother helped me up the stairs, and into the blue recliner. Which, is pretty much, where I've been since Thursday. My mom got to the house sooner or later (she had to get her car and what not), and helped me eat soup...she had a burger. I remember being jealous!
From there, I was pretty much out of it.
The next day (yesterday), started off fine and dandy. Until around 5 PM. My mom was checking my boobs, which she'd been doing a lot! And, she noticed that my right nipple was A LOT darker than it should be. So, she called Dr. Boustros office. He called back, and told us to go in immediately. So, Dad, Mom, and I loaded up, and drove all the way out there. (It was around this time that it took a while for my right nipple to get blood flow on Thursdsay!) When we got there, he took me back into my little room, and had me unbutton my shirt (I have only been in light, button-down shirts. I can't lift anything up and over my head...) Anyways, he then proceeded to get a needle like thing, and poked my nipple some. He wasn't too thrilled with that. A crescent of my nipple wasn't getting enough/any blood flow. So, he cut a few of the stitches there. There was an immediate difference.
What that means is that I have some more time to my healing period. And, that he'll be restitching what he cut open on Monday, July 21st. Which, means to bra for me for a while! Well, not much of anything for a while, really.
Thankfully, Lori, my best friend, is about to head over! She's going and renting two movies for us to watch, and getting herself some food. So, I'm excited! I haven't seen anyone other than my Mom, Dad, brother, and Dr. Boustros since Thursday.
